The purpose of the creation of the United World College (UWC) schools and programs is for the promotion of international understanding through service, education, and social responsibility. A diverse cross-section of students has received a challenging and transformative educational experience by UWC, which inspired them toward the creation of a future that is more peaceful and sustainable. These UWC scholarships were named in honor of the late Dr. J.W. Grant MacEwan and administered by Student Aid Alberta.

Grant MacEwan University

Grant MacEwan University was established in 1971 and was formerly known as “Grant MacEwan Community College”. It was named after a former lieutenant governor, educator, and author of Alberta known as Dr. J.W. Grant MacEwan. The Grant MacEwan University gained accreditation and started granting degree as an institution in 2004. From this time, it started offering degree-granting programs and baccalaureate degrees in Science, Commerce, Nursing, Child and Youth Care, and Arts. More additional courses will be added in the future, particularly social work, music, and communication. Today, Grant MacEwan University is the largest transfer institution in the province.

Scholarship Worth

The MacEwan scholarship offers Tuition, room and board and one return trip home yearly. Each scholarship caters for both years of the program.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be residing in Alberta and should be between the ages of 16 and 17 and-a-half. Applicants should be in the process of completing Grade 11.

Selection Process

A selection committee does evaluate recipients. UWC Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the academic record of students, personal accomplishments, breadth of study, community involvement, and interests in the goals of UWC.

Awards that need no application

Some awards do not need application by students as they are decided by nomination. For such awards, the details page of the award has this information indicated on it. The scholarship award offered by the MacEwan University is aimed at helping students feel prepared for the financial demands of education in the university. Criteria

For students to be considered for this scholarship, they must:

Be enrolled full-time in their first year of study within the Bachelor of Design Studies Diploma program or Communications Studies;Be in good standing academically; andDemonstrate exceptional achievement in academics with the highest cumulative entrance Grade Point Average.

Number of Awards:  20 Value:  $2000 Award Type The basis on which this scholarship is awarded is on performance in academics. 80 percent of a full course load (usually four courses) must be taken by students. Selection of Award: Selection Committee. This selection is final as appeals will not be given consideration.

Disbursement Criteria

The criteria for the disbursement of funds is that successful applicants must be enrolled in a full-time course load and be in good standing academically. Apply through Nomination Staff and/or faculty nominates students for this award hence there’s no need to apply. Notification will be sent to successful students by e-mail.

Acupuncture Entrance Scholarship

Acupuncture Diploma | Entrance

Criteria

This scholarship is awarded to the full-time students who entered the first year of the Acupuncture program in the category of Regular admission with the highest admission averages. In addition, this is one of Grant MacEwan UWC Scholarships Number of Awards:  2 Value:  $1200

Award Type

The basis on which this scholarship is awarded is on academic performance. 80 percent of a full course load (usually four courses) must be taken by students. An application form is not required by most scholarships.

Selection of Award: Selection Committee.

Successful applicants will receive notification via their e-mail. The selections of the committee are final hence consideration will not be given to appeals.

Disbursement Criteria

For the disbursement of funds, applicants who are successful must be enrolled in a full-time course load and be in good academic standing. Apply through Nomination Nomination of students for this award is done by faculty and/or staff hence no need for application exists. Successful students will receive notification by e-mail. AIMTAC Scholarship for Musical Excellence

All Programs The Conservatory of Music administers this award. For award details, the verification of deadline dates and the process of application, applicants are to contact the Conservatory directly. In addition, this is one of Grant MacEwan UWC Scholarships

Criteria

For the consideration of students for this award, they must:

Be enrolled in the Conservatory of Music, MacEwan University.Be registered for at least 10 hours of private instruction in the current school year – for Fall Festival Scholarships, this criterion can be waived.Exhibit a high degree of musical promise and/or musical excellence as adjudicated at the Fall Music Festival Competition (usually held in November) and the Spring Scholarship Competition (usually held in the month of April).

If not more than one award is available, the recipient may be of any musical discipline, be of any age and perform any style of music. If more than one award is available, age categories, musical discipline or style of music may be used as criteria for the determination of multiple award recipients. The determination of these added criteria will be done by February 1st and August 1st of yearly through consultation with the representative of AIMTAC and the Manager, Conservatory of Music. Selection of Award

A selection committee of jurors or adjudicators at the Fall Music Festival and the Annual Spring Scholarship Competition will choose the recipients of this award.

Alberta Recreation and Parks Association Halladay Memorial Scholarship

All Programs

Criteria

This scholarship gives recognition to students enrolled in any undergraduate program related to parks and recreation, who has contributed to the services of recreation and/or parks through work experience, volunteer activities, studies, and involvement in the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association. Students who are eligible must be active members of the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association and registered full-time in any year of a program in the post-secondary level related to recreation or parks. Upon evidence of graduation, the scholarship portion of the Award will be paid if the recipient is a graduating student while if the continuing student is a recipient, the scholarship funds will be paid on evidence of continuing full-time registration in the program of study.
