The school mascot is the Rebel, and the school colours are red, navy, and white. However, Effingham High School is the only high school in the Effingham Community Unified School District 40. Effingham College & Career Academy (ECCA) opened in fall 2010, as one of Georgia’s first college and career academies. In 2008, the Effingham County Board of Education applied for and received a $3.2 million grant from the State of Georgia, which was administered through the Technical College System of Georgia. The new facility encompassed 44,034 square feet of state-of-the-art Career, Technical, Agricultural Education (CTAE) classrooms, and labs. The costs of the building project were paid in full by the $3.2 million grant and ESPLOST funds upon its opening in fall 2010.   The building was one of the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certified buildings in Coastal Georgia. The facility grew with a 47,000 square feet Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) addition that opened in fall 2016. On August 2016, Effingham County School district launched its new STEM Academy at the Effingham College and Career Academy. The opening of the STEM program added academic courses to ECCA.  Most academic courses offered at ECCA are Honors or Advanced Placement level courses.
