The American Legion is a U.S. war veterans’ organization headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is made up of state, U.S. territory, and overseas departments, and these are in turn made up of local posts. The legislative body of The American Legion is a national convention, held annually. The organization played the leading role in drafting and passing the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944, otherwise known as the “GI Bill.” In addition to organizing commemorative events, members provide assistance at VA hospitals and clinics. It is active in issue-oriented U.S. politics. Its primary political activity is lobbying on behalf of the interests of veterans and service members, including support for benefits such as pensions and the Veterans Health Administration. The American Legion was founded in 1919 and has offered scholarships for many years. Students from various backgrounds may be eligible to participate in these American Legion Scholarships programs.
Eligibility for American Legion Scholarships 2021
Scholarship applications are restricted to high school juniors who attend the current session of either The American Legion Boys State or American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program and are a direct descendant – i.e. child, grandchild, great-grandchild, etc – or a legally adopted child of a wartime U.S. military veteran who served on active duty during at least one of the periods of war officially designated as eligibility dates for American Legion membership. Some of these scholarships will require students to demonstrate financial need, so you may want to consider applying for FAFSA as soon as possible. After completing the FAFSA application, if you still need funds to cover the cost of your studies, consider applying for one of these American Legion Scholarships:
Samsung American Legion Scholarship:
This Samsung American Legion Scholarship is currently ongoing and open to children (and grandchildren) of veterans who served in one of the following wars: Korean War, Persian Gulf War, World War, World War I, Panama, Second World War, Lebanon/Grenada, and Vietnam War. It was designed to show appreciation for American veterans who received Korea’s help in the fight against communist forces in the Korean War, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship Program put together a series of scholarships derived from interest and other principal income. In addition, only candidates who are in the first year of high school will be considered for this American Legion Scholarship. Students are selected for this scholarship based on a number of criteria. For example, applications are reviewed for evidence of extracurricular involvement, financial need, academic achievement, and community service. Students from the Korean War Veterans are preferred. Students must prove that their parent has participated in one of the aforementioned wars. Samsung scholarships can be used for undergraduate studies and are applied to tuition, books, costs and costs and accommodation. Winners are selected based on academic record, involvement in school, and community service.

Legacy Scholarship:
This American Legion Scholarship was created to help children whose parents died during the September 11th attacks. Since the death of parents results in a huge loss and overall decline in family income, these American Legion Scholarships are designed to help students pay for the cost of obtaining a college diploma. To be eligible for these awards, students must be in high school and have been accepted into an accredited college or university. In addition, the applicant must have a parent who is a veteran who served in the military after September 11 or one of his parents who died after September 11. National High School Oratory Competition:
This American Legion Scholarship is open to high school students. The value of the scholarships ranges from $1,500 to $18,000. The third-place winner receives a $14,000 bursary, the second-place winner receives a $16,000 bursary and the first prize is worth $18,000. In addition, a number of finalists are awarded $1,500 scholarships. Each state has at least one elected representative to participate in this contest. High school students are assigned a subject (a recent topic was the Constitution). They then have a short time to prepare their speech. Students compete for the most convincing argument.
Legion Baseball Scholarship
The American Legion Baseball Scholarship is for those students who have graduated from high school. The purpose of the program is to offer a chance to pay for college and school expenses through scholarships. American Legion Baseball is one of the nation’s most successful amateur athletic programs, educating young people about the importance of sportsmanship, citizenship, and fitness. Each department winner will receive a scholarship from The American Legion of $500 or more. The scholarship may be used to attend a school selected by the student, provided it is state accredited and above the high school level.
American Legion Scholarships 2022 Deadline
The American Legion Scholarship application deadline is April 9. Apply online at www.legion.org/scholarships/legacy. The Legacy Scholarship is a needs-based one. The grant amount each scholarship recipient will receive will be based on his or her financial need after all federal and state aid is exhausted. Students in all high school years can compete.
