About Rwanda

Rwanda is a landlocked East African country with a green, mountainous landscape. Its renowned Volcanoes National Park is home to mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. The East African nation has over 44 tertiary education institutions out of which 12 of them are public and 32 private.  The first university in Rwanda, the National University of Rwanda (NUR now part of the University of Rwanda), was commissioned by the government in 1963, with 49 students. By the 1999–2000 academic year, the number rose to 4,550. Today this stands at 26,796, 39% of the female. In a bid to support the higher education system, a system of ‘universités du Soir’ (night school universities) was established to widen access to university. To support the idea of building a literate society, there are a good number of available scholarships for Rwandan students. These study abroad scholarships in Rwanda are really beneficial to students who can’t afford to study abroad as a result of a lack of finance.
